Gan Island Post 11th March
There are few more nauseating sights on Gan than that
of a highly paid, highly skilled technician, standing
in queue of fellow airmen in the Airmen's' Mess clutching
his plastic mugs.
Now I know that the queue is inevitable, but surely
the plastic mug is not. If cups, and that lark of
standing a 'saucer', can be provided in the Sergeants
Mess, not to mention the Airmen's messes at home,
then they can also be provided here on Gan.
I can assure the powers that be, that airmen do know
how to hold a cup, and that not more than one in a
hundred of them would throw them to the ground, and
so break them. So let us do away with this pre- war
appendage, for which there are no adequate cleansing
facilities in any case, and return one step nearer
civilisation with a set of cups and saucers alongside
our wonderful repast.
Who can foretell, if this plea succeeds, we may then
be able to demand that holy of holy's a 'tablecloth`.
Pro Bono Publico.
