Letter Entitled "TRANNIE"
Gan Island Post 25th November 1972
The current 'trannie' farewell system is distressing
and most embarrassing. The sight of grown men hanging
a picket fence paying their respects to their comrades
presents an open prison atmosphere to the people that
are passing through.
Whilst fully appreciating the need for some curtailment
in the matter for over boisterous farewells, surely
of selectivity could be introduced?
May I suggest that a chitty be issued with every
clearance card on which a man may enter the names
of say four
of his closest friends. The man, his self, could then
be held responsible for the behaviour of his mates
of off-loading if needs be). But anything must be
an improvement on the present ghastly situation.
